Higumin

SCOPE

Editorial Design

Higumin is a unique typeface designed for both Japanese and English alphabets. This booklet, which was printed and completely hand-bound with a wax thread pamphlet stitch, breaks down the complexities of the two major Japanese alphabets (Hiragana and Katakana) and the organic characteristics of this seemingly hand-drawn typeface.

Higumin is inspired by fairytales and the illustrative work of artist Yuko Higuchi. The characters are variable and include multiple glyphs, a lot of which are illustrative icons.
